And the 194 employees of Dallas-based Valiant Residential tell us they sincerely do.

"Our mission is to innovate property management by developing prosperous partnerships and cultivating compassionate people driven by a valiant spirit," says Craig Lashley, president of the private company, which was formed in 1987.

To pull this off, Valiant embraces bold, valiant flameouts.

"We hope to fail at something every day because nothing great happens without failure," says Lashley. "For us to be the best, our team must have moments of making mistakes to figure out the best new practice."

"The biggest contributing factor to making this year's list is consistent communications with everyone in our team and then making active adjustments based on the feedback we have received," says the 35-year-old, who inherited the top job from his mentor in 2014.

"We pride ourselves on a transparent culture that is in a continual period of change. This last year, our team members gave us a tremendous amount of feedback relative to training, so we strengthened our training department and formed the Valiant Education Fund."

The company pays for health care including a $1,000 contribution to the employee's health savings account.
